NEW CADET FAQ
First off, welcome to Federation Space.
Before we get started, please read the Fed Space Constitution. When you have read it, and if you don't have any questions, please post a message in the thread located above the Auditorium under the Academy heading. When you post, say that you have read, understood and agree to abide by the Constitution. That is your way of signing it.
Respect is a big part of playing on Federation Space, please treat all players as you would want to be treated.
Most of the users on Fed Space use Hotmail as their email service and MSN Messenger to chat amongst your fellow players. Hotmail is free, so if you want to sign up, just go to www.hotmail.com and apply for an account.
Now, on to the training outlines.
1. Posting format: Please double-space your individual thoughts, and all dialogue between characters.
Example:
As Stan worked in the Science Labs, his Department Head Commander Matthews came over and handed him a PADD. As he read over it, he was amazed at the turn of events. A promotion!
"What's it say Stan?" Sarah asked excitedly.
"I've been promoted to Lieutenant." he replied, a wide smile playing across his lips.
When speaking to someone over a comm channel, or addressing the computer, make sure their response is inside of brackets[ ].
For instance:
"Computer, begin program."
[Acknowledged.]
Italics: To post in italics, use the 'I' button when you want your italics to start, click it again when you want it to end. Or to do it manually use \ i {text} with no spaces.
Bolding: Same as above, only the 'B' button. For manual usage \ b {text} with no spaces.
Smilies: Please use smilies only in OOC (== out of Context ==) and in Hailing Frequencies.
Colors: All members must post in the default color (white).1. GM input: Make sure to allow the GM to control unknowns such as damage, tricorder readings, etc. But keep it within reason, you don’t need GM approval to eat.
2. Ranks & Points: Points are given around the first of every month and are dependant on play. Here is a link explaining the rank and point system. For our purposes, Midshipman and Cadet are the same thing. But Cadet will be used in the Academy, while Midshipman is a ship rank.

3. Each member of Fed Space is only allowed ONE rated character, which is a character that earns points and rank.
4. NPC's: Non-Player Characters are used to fill the holes in the crew since we don't have hundreds of players for each ship. You can have NPC's on approval of your Commanding Officers.
To make an NPC post, simply place an OOC notation at the top of the post, like this:
== Ensign John Smith - NPC ==
5. Please read the Federation Space History section at the link below.
http://www.federationspace-rpg.net/academy/hq-acd-fedhistory.html
6. Physical Characteristics: Please use common sense. Decks are only about 10 feet high, turbolifts about 8 feet high. Having a character that doesn't fit on the ship, would cause difficulties. Also, try and keep mixed races logical. If you have any doubts, please ask or email your Instructor or Commodore Keleios.
7. Subplots: Make sure to ALWAYS get approval for any subplots you wish to run. Contact your First Officer, Commanding Officer or GM (Game Moderator) for approval. This is to keep from altering main story lines.
8. Introductory post: When you arrive on your assigned ship, post on the bridge introducing yourself as if you are just coming on duty, unless otherwise specified by your Instructor.
9. Chain Of Command: If you have any problems, questions, or concerns, be sure to follow the proper chain of command, which is: Your Department Head, your First Officer, your Commanding Officer, your Fleet Commander, and the CINC.
10. Posting Frequency: Fed Space is not a chat site. Some people can only post every couple of days. Please keep this in mind when you are waiting for a response. If the person never gets back to you, contact the GM for your ship.
11. Registration: When Registering your character, make sure to use your character's last name as the Username, for example: 'Smith'.
For the Full Name, use your character's name and rank. For example, 'Ensign John Smith'.
Superintendent Keleios will email you with Registration Instructions. All registrations made before then will be rejected. You will not be able to post in the Holodeck training area until you have been registered. The rest of the site will not be available until you graduate from the Academy.
12. Stardates: We use a method for Stardates that should hopefully work to explain when an event happened in real time. The way the Stardate is calculated, is by using the current date and re-arranging the numbers. You take the first number of the year, 2. Then the last two numbers of the year, 02. Then the month, 09. Then the day of the month, 08. You get 20209.08
