Personal History:

Paul was born aboard one of the floating colonies on the planet Dhar’hyyk. Due to the nature of the planet, Paul learned to fly at an early age before enlisting in the Dhar’hyyk Defence Force at the age of sixteen – shortly before Paul graduated flight school civil war broke out and he was sent to the front lines where he spent the next year and a half flying and killing for what he believed in. For his actions in the war, he gained fame among pilots and civilians alike and earned many the respect of many. He was awarded the title “Hero of Dhar’hyyk” – a title which he seldom used, citing that he was no more a hero than any other fighter in the war.

When Paul was nineteen, a Starfleet officer befriended the teenager and made a proposal he couldn’t refuse. The offer was a four year contract to Starfleet Starfighter Command, a chance for him to learn new skills and fly newer, better types of fighters. His skill impressed his instructors and he was assigned to a Escort Carrier that frequently protected convoys from attacks by Pirates. For three years, Paul’s squadron saw little action, fighting off the occasional raider, until the Romulan invasion began. Paul saw service on the front line, flying strike missions against Romulan convoys and facilities and intercepting any Romulan fighter raids, accumulating a kill tally in the double figures. With the invasion by the Borg, the Carrier was ordered into hiding and for months the Squadron launched small raiding missions on facilities on assimilated planets, during which the Squadron took heavy casualties, including their Commanding Officer. By mutual agreement of the pilots and the Carrier’s Captain, Paul was made Squadron Leader just in time to answer Starfleet Command’s request for assistance in driving the Borg away from Earth.

The Carrier, along with some mercenaries they had met on their travels arrived late in the battle, just when things were starting to look bad for the allied forces in the area. Tired, outnumbered and outgunned, Paul’s squadron launched into the battle, despite a near-certain probability of death or assimilation. Many of the pilots were killed within minutes, but still Paul fought on, most notably using his fighter to draw fire away from escape pods fleeing a doomed Frigate. Paul had to watch in despair and helplessness as his Carrier was snared in a Tractor Beam and pulled into a Cube, only to see the Cube destroyed as the Carrier’s self-destruct activated.

Filled with anger, Paul fought on, no longer caring about his own life. The Borg had taken nearly everything he cared about, and hate filled him. Witnesses would later say he flew as though he were possessed by some kind of demon as he flew to and past the limits of his fighter’s design, destroying several small Borg Scout ships before his own fighter was hit, badly wounding Paul. Though wounded, Paul continued to fly his crippled fighter, using it to draw fire away from strike fighters attacking the Borg ships. Finally, the battle was over and Paul’s dying fighter was tractored aboard the Battlecruiser Dauntless where he spent the next few days in Sickbay. When he recovered, Paul received notification that he was eligible for discharge, although he didn’t want to leave Starfleet, he needed to know how his homeworld had fared and reluctantly signed the papers.

After his discharge was cleared, Paul returned to Dhar’hyyk to work as an instructor to train new pilots in basic starfighter tactics. After two years as an instructor, he applied for Starfleet Academy and was accepted. When he graduated, he was assigned to the USS Philadelphia. From the start it seemed things were going wrong, he was put in quarantine with a xenophobic psychopath and then was shot at while on duty.

Even though the first few months were traumatic, Paul settled in on the Philadelphia and after his first six months had been promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Soon after, following a semi-successful away mission and wrongful accusation of attempted genocide, he was promoted to full Lieutenant.

Paul married long-time sweetheart Lieutenant Hulan Liu, who despite a muscle-killing disease became pregnant with his child. Unfortunately Paul and Hulan’s family always fought, and Hulan divorced Paul after a few months of marriage to stop her family disowning her. Paul was heartbroken and didn’t speak much for a few days, before Mirax and Alex both convinced him that just because he was alone again didn’t mean he couldn’t live life to its fullest.

After serving as Acting Chief Tactical Officer in Commander Tamerin’s absence Paul was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned as Chief Tactical Officer aboard the Philadelphia. During one shore leave, he returned to Dhar'hyyk to participate in an air-race, but became mixed up in a new civil war – the legitimate government was ousted and Paul was declared a traitor by the new government and became an exile from his own home planet. When he returned to the Philadelphia, he found out that he had become a father and his daughter Jennifer had been entrusted to his care. Despite concerns made by the First Officer, Paul kept Jenny on board and with the help of Alex LaHaye began to raise her as well as he could.

After a few months as CTO on the Philadelphia, Paul attracted the attention of Fleet Admiral Benestead while performing his yearly flight exam. He was offered a position of Marine Squadron Leader on the Enterprise and accepted almost immediately. He formed his own squadron, hand picking some of the best pilots in the Marine Corps including a fellow pilot and lover from his homeworld – First Lieutenant Mackenzie Annan. The two helped train the other pilots in the wing in more unorthodox tactics they had developed in the civil war and Paul promoted Mackenzie to Captain soon after. The two became engaged following a training accident that nearly destroyed Paul’s fighter, and wasted no time in getting married soon after. Paul’s married bliss was shattered when a message from an friend from the Dhar’hyyk Defence Force showing that his mother had been killed in a bombing raid in the second civil war on his homeworld. What made matters worse, was that it turned out that Paul’s father had never been a member of Starfleet – he was in fact a leader in the Anti-Unification Alliance.

The revelation that his father was a traitor put a new fire in Paul’s heart, and soon after the message was received, he began to gather the best pilots he could find in order to lead a mission to reclaim his home.
