Personal History: Loki was born on Starbase 375 to Tara Eisenmann, a young Scotch-Irish doctor. All Loki knew of his father was that he had been a friendly young ensign aboard a starship docked at the starbase for a short time. His mother worked in a MASH unit on the starbase caring for Starfleet’s wounded from the first Romulan / Federation war. They lived a happy life together until Tara married a proprietor on the base. Things were fine at first and the couple had a daughter together, Dashi. Shortly after her birth Tara found her husband was having an affair. In a fit of Irish passion she took her two children and transferred to starbase 74.

When Loki was 10 years old his mother began to use illegal drugs to overcome the pain of rejection by her husband. Tara tried to keep her addiction away from her children, but soon it took over much of her life. Normally a meticulous and loving individual she sank into a drug induced lifestyle of filth and despair. The day she lost her practice in Starfleet was the last straw, she became a recluse and rarely woke from her catatonic state. Loki took this hard as he saw what was happening to his close knit family. Loki began to work under the table as a computer repair technician to help support his mother and sister. But this quickly ended when he was caught by a Betazoid social worker, named Statiya. He and his sister were placed in foster care and moved to earth. His mother was placed in rehab with little prospect of recovery. She had become dependant on the drugs for daily function and if she discontinued using them she would die.

Loki’s early teen years seemed to be normal. He and Dashi were placed in a foster home in Italy. The elderly couple that were assigned to were kind and truly cared for both of them. With this sense of structure in his life Loki flourished. He and Dashi were inseparable. They soon found an affinity for music under the tutelage of the Italian couple. Finding it much like computers, Loki picked up the piano quickly. Dashi mastered the violin. The pair soon became regular performers at the local cafe. These were the happiest days of Loki’s life.

The only dark spot in the sun of life was his hatred of the case worker, Statiya. He wouldn’t even acknowledge her existence or authority over his life. Although Statiya only had the best interest for him in mind, it was her version of what was best. He couldn’t stand the sense of her in his mind trying to psychoanalyze him.

Then came the day that Loki’s foster father died and it was found that his foster mother could no longer care for the two children. It was now up to Statiya to decide what was to become of the little family. Thinking that Loki’s increasing rebelliousness could become a bad influence on Dashi she decided to split them up. Dashi was sent to America to study music while fifteen year old Loki went to Mars to cultivate his skills in computers.

Although it was true that he had showed some talent with computers, Loki never touched a computer on Mars. He would never be forced into something he didn’t decide for himself. Loki soon despised any thing to do with computers or the sciences. He spent most of his time practicing piano alone in a nearby deserted school house. He lived for one thing, the day he would have a family again.

Shortly before turning 18 Loki’s world was destroyed by a single message on a PADD. Statiya called to say that Dashi had been killed in a freak transporter accident at school. Loki blamed her for the death of his sister. It was her fault that Dashi was sent to that school and if she hadn’t then maybe, just maybe, she would have lived.

After leaving the foster care system and Statiya forever, Loki sought out his mother to give her the news of her daughter’s death. But he found that she had been sent to Vulcan to be enrolled in a experimental rehab program. As part of this program she was in isolation for a indefinite period of time. Now without a family, Loki began to search for acceptance.

Loki soon found a family. A group of respectable mercenaries, Interstellar Defense, was recruiting at a nearby starbase. Their own personal wars had not been going so well. And now, with the threat of the Romulans starting trouble again, they needed to beef up their ranks to prepare for the number of contracts that were sure to follow. Loki signed on readily.

He began his career as a junior member of Stellar Defense’s ground forces. Although there was no formal training, Loki learned the art of war from his squad mates and he put his heart and soul into learning. It was hard and he had a steep learning curve ahead of him, because he didn’t have the training from birth as many of his peers had. There were many mistakes. Many days ended with one or the other of Loki’s friends dragging him back to sickbay unconscious after another, “Newbie mistake.”

But he survived to find his niche. With the help of his friends, Loki became known as the best close quarters combat technician in the business in just a few years. His skills for situational awareness and fluid reflexes grew out of years of practicing of music. Anyone who knew Loki would tell you that to fight along side him was to be a part of his orchestra, moving in synchronous with the song of death in Loki’s mind. Those years of solitary practice also instilled him with an ability to train until perfection was reached.

About twelve years into his career he transferred to shipboard operations and served as a member of the bridge crew aboard the company’s flag ship. Although he applied himself to his work it just wasn’t the same. After several years he transferred to Interstellar Defense’s most elite ground insertion team which he remained in for the rest of his career in Interstellar Defense.

Loki’s final mission started like all the others. The briefing was clear. Enter the neutral zone, recover members of an influential family of Bolians, and get out as fast as humanly possible. Another clear cut triple G: Goods Got Gone. But it was not as clear as it had originally appeared. He and the rest of the team were transported into the compound where intel suggested they were being held. Instantly they were enveloped in small arms fire, killing most of the team. Loki escaped unharmed and he two of the surviving members of his squad liberated the captive Bolians. Upon returning to their ship they raced for the Federation side of the neutral zone. Just short of their goal they were disabled by a Romulan Bird of Prey. Loki was one of the few members of the crew to survive as they drifted across the border and picked up by Starfleet.

With the destruction of their flagship Interstellar Defense was finished. They sold off the remainder of its assets and split the profits among the survivors. The death of so many of his friends left Loki cold and hollow. He couldn’t shake the horrific memories of that last fateful mission.

Now left without a purpose Loki tried to reconnect with his mother. Much to his surprise and excitement, Loki discovered that his mother was out of rehab. Tara had made a complete recovery on Vulcan two years after he joined Interstellar Defense. She had married a Bajoran man and had another daughter, Valkiry. Now rejoined with his family Loki was content for a time with showering his little sister with gifts and attention.

But after being a part of so much death he found he couldn’t just reenter society. Loki was still hurting from losing so many friends and family. Although normally friendly and sensitive he fought against a part of him that was growing inside. A side that was cold and unfeeling. Loki decided that the only way to rid himself of his ghosts was to join Starfleet, and by helping more people he could find himself again.

Loki entered Starfleet Academy at the ripe age of 30. His first months were lonely as he was older than most of the other humans at the academy, this earned him the nickname, ‘the old guy’. Loki began to win over friends slowly with his quiet, warm demeanor. Though he kept most of these newfound companions at a distance and tended to be shy, he still was an asset to any social function. It seemed to be that many of the new cadets wanted to tap into his great knowledge and experience in battle. When queried he would reply with only, “A Battle is when something goes wrong… and it’s the only way you have to fix it.” If this were true, Loki could be called the master repairman for this kind of situation, or so the younger cadets thought.

Although his social life somewhat suffered from the years of professional soldiering, his academy scores were excellent. Even though he had a formal education in his teens he had never really cared for it or given time to it. This left Loki with a great deficit in his skills in some of the core courses such as math and science. He struggled through science and engineering, force feeding himself textbooks every night.

Half way through the second year Loki’s prospects looked bleak for graduation. He was barely passing fractal calculus and his nonlinear time management class made him want to travel back in time to the stone age. The only thing that kept him in the academy was he knew his little sister, Valkiry, and his mother knew he could do it. This kind of support hed never really had before, it meant the world to Loki, and gave him the boost he needed to pass with mediocre grades. Soon he found a new interest, medicine. He studied hard and earned his placement into the Starfleet Medic program with honors.

When it came time for field training, however, Loki literally slept through battle holo training modules. When the instructor chided him for his lack of participation, Loki asked to be given the final exam for the course, on the second day of classes. He landed an A+ in the class and spent the extra time refining his weaker subjects.
