Ebony was born on the home world of Trill. Her parents, Barren and Adina were both Guardians; their role was to tend the symbiont pools and decide on the ones worthy of Joining. Ebony had only one sibling, a younger brother named Corbin whom she became close too. Because of her parents status Ebony was ensured to be Joined when old enough. To those on Trill it seemed that Ebony's family was perfect however this was not the case. Barren tended towards violence and although at work and around friends seemed like a gentle soul the brunt of his outrage was usually taken out on the family at home. The violent outbursts became increasingly worse as Ebony grew older and she herself began to experience temper problems at school and with friends. Not long after her eleventh birthday Ebony was expelled from her current school for fighting. That same night Adina was killed in a domestic violence incident by Barren. Both Ebony and Corbin underwent three years of counselling and psychiatric assessments (see Medical Report attached <clearance>). Her current legal guardian is Mackov; uncle on the mothers side, who works as a Security Officer at the Pools of Symbiont's (Mackov inspired her to join Star fleet as he was an ex-officer and often told them stories of his exciting career). Ebony was transferred to a new school to complete her training and despite the events of her past graduated with distinctions. The Guardians accepted her application for Joining – a process which commenced at the age of sixteen. Complications occurred during the procedure where her isoboromine levels spiked suddenly during the joining of the symbiont to the cerebral cortex – some reports have blamed sleep deprivation, headaches and/or erratic REM cycle during the procedure, none of which have medical basis or support. Numerous tests after the procedure confirmed that the symbiont was erratic in behavior and Ebony at times could not control the memories of the previous hosts. Usually experiencing a black out of sorts Ebony would suddenly “become” a previous host loosing complete control of her own consciousness. She spent the next two years with the Trill Symbiosis Commission having tests run and taking part in vigorous mental and physical training to learn how to keep the symbiont at bay. Ebony was found to be in 'perfect health' at the end of the two years and deciding to move on in life, she lodged her application for Starfleet Academy. In response a liaison from Star fleet came to Trill personally to run psycho analysis tests to ensure that despite her history Ebony was 'together' enough to be a Starfleet officer. Tests confirmed what the Trill Symbiosis Commission had already stated in their own reports – that despite everything Ebony was one of the most 'together' people that they knew. Her application was accepted and she started training at the Academy at the age of nineteen.
